So I'm in my final week here at my current employer. I'm working out my notice and it's all a bit odd. It's like breaking up from your girlfriend or something, only over a longer period of time. I'm sure it would be better to just leave quickly, without the 2 week, slow death march.
Slowly but surely I am being removed from various loops and things are moving ahead without my input. Obviously this is a nescessity and a good thing, being as I'm leaving, but it's weird. People seem a little uncomfortable around me, like something has changed. It's very subtle. Almost like I've got a fatal illness and noone really wants to meet my eye. It's a little bit like the morning after a particularly embarassing party.
I'm taking the entire company out for lunch tomorrow as a thankyou and a fairwell to all my friends and colleagues. It's surprising how many people who I have never really had anything to do with, want to see me off. maybe it's because it's a free meal
A friend of mine told me about this cool music site called Pandora. You can create custom radio stations, tailored to your musical tastes. You simply enter an artist or a song and if it can find it, you're listening in a few seconds. Pretty neat-o. It even works on mobiles.
So I've been having heart palpitations off and on for a few weeks now. They come and go, and I've been trying to pin down the cause. I haven't been successful. They seem to be random, but some thing do seem to make them worse, like being tired, or sitting in a particular position or eating too much. It's not even consistent. Some days I'll not have any, and some days I have loads.
Well the other day, I had 'em quite bad. I had them pretty much all day, intermittently, so I made an appointment at the doctors and he basically said not to worry. Someone my age in my generally healthy condition wouldn't have a real problem. But, to be sure, he did fit me with a 24 hour holter monitor.
It basically monitors my heart over 24 hours like a portable EKG or something. If I have an "event", I havve to make a note of the time and what I'm doing. Then he analyses it all and tells me if I should worry or not.
It's sort of a pain in the ass though. It makes me more aware of how I'm moving and stuff. I can't shower either because of the electrodes. Every cloud has a silver lining though, and my girly is going to give me a sponge bath later, so there you go
I handed in my notice on Friday and I have 2 weeks left at my current employer. I am excited! I am going to work for "The Mouse", or Disney if you prefer.
I will be working for DIG, on a new team, working on a really exciting and interesting project. Can't say any more than that right now.
The only downside is my new commute. My curent employer is a mere 15 minutes away by fast car, whereas my new job is about 1 hour away by slow, traffic jammed car. Ah well, sometimes you have to sacrifice a little to make gains.
Matt used to work for Pandemic, but quit his job and travelled around the World, dancing in different places. You've all seen the old videos from 2005 and 2006. Now watch his latest ..
So, what is Mused about? Well, it's really just a place to put stuff. Anything really. Random stuff I find intersting. Things I think about or do, places I visit, people I meet, stuff I find on the Internet. Mused is my personal blog I guess.
So, who am I? My name is Chris, and I'm a video game programmer living in Southern California.
