So I've been having heart palpitations off and on for a few weeks now. They come and go, and I've been trying to pin down the cause. I haven't been successful. They seem to be random, but some thing do seem to make them worse, like being tired, or sitting in a particular position or eating too much. It's not even consistent. Some days I'll not have any, and some days I have loads.
Well the other day, I had 'em quite bad. I had them pretty much all day, intermittently, so I made an appointment at the doctors and he basically said not to worry. Someone my age in my generally healthy condition wouldn't have a real problem. But, to be sure, he did fit me with a 24 hour holter monitor.
It basically monitors my heart over 24 hours like a portable EKG or something. If I have an "event", I havve to make a note of the time and what I'm doing. Then he analyses it all and tells me if I should worry or not.
It's sort of a pain in the ass though. It makes me more aware of how I'm moving and stuff. I can't shower either because of the electrodes. Every cloud has a silver lining though, and my girly is going to give me a sponge bath later, so there you go |
